I bought a set of Powerflex bushes from Demon Tweeks. They cost quite a lot, £40 I think. They are made of Polyurethane and are 20% to 30% stiffer than the standard rubber ones, but with the same sound transmitting properties, allegedly.
In order to replace the rear bushes it is best to completely remove the rear axle assembly. To do this the brake hoses and hand brake cable need to be removed. I used woodworking clamps to squash the flexible brake hoses to seal off the rest of the braking system. With the handbrake it is only necessary to undo the master nut and then slip both cables over the exhaust. The rear axle is heavy, a decent support or vice is needed. Getting the old bushes out can be a hassle. I chiselled them out.
Putting the new bushes in needs some preparation.
After my previous attempt I knew what was needed.
I assembled this lot to make a puller. The alternative is to buy a ready made kit
from Snap-On or whoever. The first bush went in really easily. The second one got a bit weird. It expanded
and didn't want to fit. I needed to clean up the hole with a round file a bit to sort this out.
