New wings and bonnet in back of car ready for delivery to paint shop.
Replacement bumpers. The ones on the car both had serious cracks in. I spent a
few hours with the high pressure washer on these. I managed
to strip most of the paint off this way.
Car ready for delivery at paint shop. Notice how the driver's door is a different colour
to the rest of the car. That's because the other parts were resprayed about 18 months
previously. The original 14" GTE wheels were back on, the 15" were off to be reconditioned.
After a week at the bodyshop. The locks have been removed,
the rusty rear arch sorted, the new bonnet fitted and the new rings are ready to fit (wings
visible leaning against wall in top left hand image). The inside of the car
has become a junk yard.
The bodyshop had trouble getting the front panels to line up. So they jigged the
car and found that both front legs were bent by 20mm. The suspension mounting points
were OK though.
The cold air feed is clear in the left hand image.
The day before the colour spray. The front cross member and slam panel
have been sprayed. It's starting to look smart.
That's Martin, the owner, standing by the car after the spray. The bumpers,
mirrors, front headlamp washers and rear number plate are about to be colour coded.
Looking good! Bits of trim have been refitted. The paint has not
been buffed up yet.
Whilst the car was in the paint shop I sprayed the bumper trim and
sideskirts with dark Grey paint. After cleaning and rubbing down with 600 grit it was primed with several layers of
plastic Primer. After more rubbing down it was sprayed with bumper paint. I had trouble with the
sideskirts - the paint went a bit milky in a few patches. I managed to overspray most of it.
These pictures were taken the day I picked the car up from the bodyshop. I managed to get most of
the exterior trim back on. The old wheels are on the car. The sideskirts and rub strips are missing.
I just had to try out the 8v badge, I'm very pleased with the result.
