Back to rebuild

Bits stacked up ready.Ancillary parts out.Like all big jobs, a big pile of bits is needed. Note the Scotchbrite (Brillo pad stuff), gloves, Gunk degreaser and mega Blue roll. The second picture shows the engine with some of the ancilleries gone.
Result of 3 month old sump leak.Oily shit everywhere.

The consequence of three months of sump leakage were a major oily pebble dash slurry on the bulkhead and suspension parts. The oil was dripping onto the driveshaft which then sprayed it everywhere.

Degreased and jet washed.Exhaust downpipes cleaned up.The insides of the wheels were coated in oil too. It was all cleaned up with Gunk and a jetwash. The engine bay was treated this way too.
Degreased and jet washed.Degreased and jet washed. The gearbox input shaft can be problematic. This time it pulled straight out with no resistance whatsoever. Very odd considering I had to hammer it in last time. I degreased the sump too.
Head exposed.Pistons exposed. Good bit of bore wear. It has done 197K mind. After removing the manifolds the cam box and head were removed. Revealing the block showed that the bores were showing quite a lot of wear. The engine had done 197K.
Head.Hydraulic tappets.Valves. All in the right order. The hydraulic tappets and valves were removed from the head.
Cleaned up head.Cleaned up head.Clean clean clean.About two hours were spent cleaning the head. After cleaning the gasket remnants off then every last speck of crud had to be removed.
Valve lapping. Exhaust valves very pitted.Cam box. More surfaces to clean. The valves were lapped in. The exhaust valves took ages since they had a lot of pitting on them. With this job the emphasis was on thoroughly cleaning everything.
Now the fun starts. At last the the new engine was ready to be built up.
On to day 2
