Day 3 - Engine Problems, cause found.

After work I did a compression test:
Results were:
1 - 0.5bar
2 - 0.5 bar
3 - 7 bar
4 - 7 bar

Aha. So the generally low compression on 3&4 and lack of compression on 1&2 is the cause. The plan was to whip the head off the next day. Since the engine sounded mechanically fine then I reckoned that it was going to be the head gasket. I wondered if the engine has been running a bit too much compression or the ignition timing had been set dangerously advanced. Or something.
Or the pattern gasket was cake.
