Replacing the hoses is simple in theory - it's just a matter of unscrewing the hose union at each end of the pipe. In reality this will be tricky because I can gaurantee that the union will be rusted up. So try these trick tools - WD40, hammer and punch to wake the rust up, and two sorts of exceptionally useful graunching spanners. These are great - the more the nut resists the more they grip, until you start to shear the nut into a mangled mess. You can buy brake pipe spanners from accesory shops. The impact driver is shown as this is another good piece of kit for akward b**tard nuts and bolts. Can't use it in this case though The other thing you need for akward nuts is patience. When I first started out in car mechanics I would round off stuck nuts in seconds. Now I take my time - assume that it's locked up. WD40 it, relax, have a cup of tea, give it some punch treatment, WD40 it, wait, bit more punch, try a spanner on it....gently. It amazing how a few sharp blows on the end of a stuck bolt will start to free it up. It's best if you've got another job to do inbetween - keep coming back to the stuck part until it moves. In really bad cases think about drilling it out or hacksawing it off. |
